Commitment to Safety

Our Commitment to Safety at Corporation

At Corporation, the safety and well-being of our customers and staff are our top priorities. As one of Sheffield’s largest nightclubs and live music venues, we take pride in offering a secure and welcoming environment for everyone. We are proud members of the Sheffield Women and Girls Safety Charter and hold consistent Best Bar None Accreditation ensuring and demonstrating that we are committed to the highest standards of safety, both for our patrons and our staff.

Here are the key ways in which we implement safety measures, both through the Charter’s Seven Commitments, Best Bar None’s four core licensing objectives and our own internal initiatives:

1. Championing Safety

We have appointed a dedicated Safety Champion, who leads our internal safety efforts and works closely with Sheffield City Council and South Yorkshire Police. Our Safety Champion is responsible for driving cultural change and ensuring our policies and procedures are effectively implemented.

If you have any reports, or concerns, or would like to discuss our safety policies please get in touch with our Champion: phil@corproation.org.uk

2. Visible Communication

We actively support and promote initiatives such as Ask for Angela and Anti-Spiking campaigns. Throughout the venue, you’ll find clear signage explaining our zero-tolerance policy for harassment and how to report unacceptable behaviour.

Our whatsapp message service allows customers to discreetly report any concerns directly to door staff. Posters and staff are on hand to provide assistance when needed. To further ensure that this safety procedure is used safely we do not promote or advertise this number online so that we can do our best to effectively and efficiently provide support to those in the venue.

3. Supporting Our Staff

Our staff are trained at all levels on how to maintain a safe and inclusive environment. This includes responding appropriately to reports of harassment, providing support to affected individuals and ensuring confidentiality. We regularly update our Sexual Harassment Policy and invest in ongoing training to ensure everyone knows how to manage safety concerns effectively.

4. Supporting Our Customers

We believe in empowering our customers to feel safe at all times. If you witness or experience any inappropriate behaviour, we encourage you to report it to any member of our team or use our confidential text service. Multiple reporting channels (in person, via text or through feedback forms) are available to make reporting as easy as possible.

5. Comprehensive Training

Our staff undergo training to ensure they are prepared to handle any reports of harassment or unsafe behaviour. Further training is provided to the management team who are responsible for ensuring the safety of customers and staff. This includes how to respond in a supportive and professional manner. Additionally, our team is trained in discretion and confidentiality (GDPR) to ensure all reports are handled with care and respect.

6. Safe Venue Design

Best Bar None annually audits our venue to ensure it meets high safety standards. This includes maintaining well-lit areas, installing CCTV, and ensuring that all spaces are designed to allow for easy movement. In addition, we have safe spaces available for anyone who needs assistance or a quiet area after an incident. Safety considerations are consistently reviewed when the venue is under-going any changes, modifications or construction in the venue.

7. Continuous Improvement

Safety is an ongoing process. We continuously assess our policies and procedures to ensure they are up-to-date and effective. We also collaborate with local authorities and South Yorkshire Police, to share best practices and stay informed on the latest safety developments. We also ensure that we are vigilant in researching and checking for any additional schemes or initiatives we can take part in to ensure that we provide the most up to date care in the venue.

Our Internal Initiative: In addition to the measures we have in place through the Sheffield Women and Girls Safety Charter, we have our own internal Whatsapp message service, which allows anyone in the venue to report concerns. This is monitored by our door staff and managers, ensuring immediate action when needed.

Door Searches: Our trained Door Staff will conduct searches upon entry to all attendees of our Club Nights and Gigs. This is to ensure the safety of all people in the venue at all times.

CCRAC Radio: The CCRAC radio is a city-wide radio channel that links bars, nightclubs and other businesses directly to the police as well as a central base that monitors Sheffield’s CCTV cameras. This allows everyone to receive live updates on ongoing issues.

Safe Square: Safe Square is a council-backed initiative that provides a call-out medical service to help people who are too drunk or vulnerable. This initiative is tied in with the Sheffield CCRAC Radio.

Red Frogs: We have volunteers from the Red Frogs here every Friday club night offering water and food to customers in our smoking area. https://redfrogs.co.uk/

1625 Outreach: Providing non-judgmental, fact-based, information and support surrounding drug and alcohol use and the associated risks and have attended live music events as well as additional student-focused events.

By committing to these measures, Corporation strives to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy their time with peace of mind.
